Employees in Egypt pay income tax on salaries (ضريبة المرتبات) under the Income Tax Law No. 91 of 2005, with the rates and exemption set by Law No. 7 of 2024 for salaries from March 2024. This calculator applies those rules, as the Egyptian Tax Authority publishes them, to your gross monthly salary.
Step by step. The employee's social insurance share is 11% of the insurable wage, which in 2026 is held between EGP 2,700 and EGP 16,700 a month. That share comes off first. Twelve months of what is left, less the EGP 20,000 personal exemption, is the taxable income, rounded down to the nearest ten pounds. The tax for the year is spread evenly over the months.
The brackets.
| Annual taxable income | Rate |
|---|---|
| Up to EGP 40,000 | 0% |
| EGP 40,000 to 55,000 | 10% |
| EGP 55,000 to 70,000 | 15% |
| EGP 70,000 to 200,000 | 20% |
| EGP 200,000 to 400,000 | 22.5% |
| EGP 400,000 to 1,200,000 | 25% |
| Above EGP 1,200,000 | 27.5% |
Higher earners lose the lower bands. Above EGP 600,000 a year the 0% band goes and the first EGP 55,000 are taxed at 10%; above 700,000 the first 70,000 at 15%; above 800,000 the first 200,000 at 20%; above 900,000 the first 400,000 at 22.5%; above 1,200,000 the first 1,200,000 at 25%. Crossing a limit by ten pounds can raise the year's tax by several thousand pounds, and the Brackets tab shows which column you are in.
Worked example. EGP 20,000 a month: social insurance 1,837, taxable income 197,950 a year, tax 29,340 a year or 2,445 a month, net salary EGP 15,718.
What it does not do. One-off bonuses, comprehensive health insurance, the Martyrs' Fund stamp, life-insurance premiums and the higher exemption for people with a disability are left out. Your employer may also register a different insurable wage.

The employee's 11% social insurance share comes off the gross salary first. Twelve months of the rest, less the EGP 20,000 personal exemption and rounded down to ten pounds, is taxed by the Law 7/2024 brackets, from 0% to 27.5%. The year's tax is then divided by twelve for the monthly deduction.
Annual taxable income is taxed at 0% up to EGP 40,000, 10% to 55,000, 15% to 70,000, 20% to 200,000, 22.5% to 400,000, 25% to 1,200,000 and 27.5% above. The table comes from Law 7 of 2024, and no later law has changed it up to October 2026.
Yes. Taxable income above EGP 600,000 a year loses the 0% band, and the first EGP 55,000 are taxed at 10%. Above 700,000, 800,000, 900,000 and 1,200,000 more of the low bands go, until the first EGP 1.2 million are all taxed at 25% and the rest at 27.5%.
The personal exemption is EGP 20,000 a year for every employee, set by Article 13 of the Income Tax Law as amended by Law 7 of 2024. The amount is taken off after social insurance and before the brackets, so on any salary the first EGP 20,000 of the year carries no tax.
From 1 January 2026 the insurable wage is at least EGP 2,700 and at most EGP 16,700 a month, up from 2,300 and 14,500. The employee pays 11% of it, so the social insurance deduction runs from EGP 297 to EGP 1,837 a month whatever the salary above the cap.
A salary of EGP 20,000 a month pays EGP 1,837 social insurance and EGP 2,445 income tax, leaving EGP 15,718. The taxable income is 197,950 a year: EGP 1,500 tax on the 10% band, 2,250 on the 15% band and 25,590 on the 20% band, EGP 29,340 for the year.
