Estimates only, not financial advice. What you type stays on your device. Checked against sources on 16 Oct 2026.

UAE overtime is paid on basic salary: the hourly basic (basic ÷ 30 ÷ 8) plus at least 25%, or plus 50% for hours between 10 pm and 4 am. On AED 6,000 basic an overtime hour pays AED 31.25, a night hour AED 37.50, so 10 hours earn AED 312.50.

About the UAE Overtime Calculator

This calculator works out the minimum overtime pay for a private-sector employee in the UAE, following the UAE Government portal's page on working hours and Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, the UAE Labour Law. The rules are federal, so they apply the same in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and every other emirate.

The hourly basic wage. Overtime is based on the basic salary, which the law defines without allowances or benefits in kind. The law counts a month as 30 days and a normal day as 8 hours, so the hourly basic is the monthly basic ÷ 30 ÷ 8: AED 25 on AED 6,000.

The three rates. Ordinary overtime is the hourly basic plus at least 25%. Overtime between 10 pm and 4 am is plus at least 50%, except for shift workers, who get 25%. A weekly rest day worked earns another day off or the day's wage plus at least 50% of the day's basic.

A worked example. AED 6,000 basic and 10 overtime hours: AED 25 × 1.25 = AED 31.25 an hour, AED 312.50 for the month. Four night hours would add AED 150, and a rest day worked AED 300.

Limits. An employer may ask for at most 2 overtime hours a day and 144 working hours in any 3 weeks. Normal hours are 8 a day or 48 a week, 2 hours shorter a day in Ramadan.

Your contract may pay more. These are minimums. If your payslip uses another hourly rate, type it under More options.

Not included. Categories excluded by the Implementing Regulation, Ramadan schedules and piecework. An estimate, not legal advice.

Everything runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How is overtime calculated in the UAE?

Overtime is paid on the basic salary: the normal hourly wage plus at least 25%. Divide the monthly basic by 30 days and 8 hours to get the hourly basic, then multiply by 1.25. On AED 6,000 basic the hourly basic is AED 25 and each overtime hour pays AED 31.25.

What is the night overtime rate in the UAE?

Overtime worked between 10 pm and 4 am is paid at the hourly basic wage plus at least 50%, so 150% of the normal rate. Shift workers are excluded from this rule and get the ordinary 25% uplift. On AED 6,000 basic a night overtime hour pays AED 37.50.

Is overtime calculated on basic or gross salary in the UAE?

On basic salary. Article 19 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 bases overtime on the basic wage, which the law defines as the contract wage without allowances or benefits in kind. Housing and transport allowances therefore do not raise the overtime rate, unless the contract promises more.

How much is paid for working on a rest day in the UAE?

A worker called in on the weekly rest day gets either another day off or the wage for that day plus at least 50% of the day's basic wage. On AED 6,000 basic with no allowances that is AED 300 for the day: AED 200 plus AED 100.

How many overtime hours are allowed in the UAE?

An employer may ask for at most 2 overtime hours a day, and total working hours may not exceed 144 in any 3 weeks. Normal hours are 8 a day or 48 a week, cut by 2 hours a day in Ramadan. More hours need the conditions in the Implementing Regulation.

Why divide by 30 to find the daily wage?

Article 67 of the UAE Labour Law says a month is 30 days when the law's periods are calculated, and Article 17 sets an 8-hour day. Basic ÷ 30 ÷ 8 gives the hourly basic. Some employers use a different divisor; type your payslip's hourly rate to use it instead.
